Tourism

The Lot, department 46

Our department gets its name from the river that crosses it, the "Lot," which is the second-longest river in France and flows into the Garonne. This river is known for its numerous and long meanders. Many water activities are possible on the river, including rafting, canoeing, hydrospeed, sport or leisure fishing, swimming, sailing, and more.

But the river is not the only asset of the Lot department. Indeed, many chasms and caves are to be discovered, including the famous Padirac chasm, which today attracts an incredible number of visitors!

Fun fact: the former name of Lot is Olt, which can still be found in the name of some villages in the department.

The Regional Natural Park of the Causses du Quercy

In Occitanie, the new name of our region, there is a regional natural park created in 1999: The Regional Natural Park of the Causses du Quercy, where panoramas, major sites, and remarkable villages succeed each other. We can mention, in a hurry, a city like Rocamadour, a site like Saint-Cirq Lapopie... Of course, we cannot mention Quercy without encouraging you to try speleology since the Causses du Quercy are famous in this regard as they are full of a hundred cavities, caves, and other chasms. Finally, for astronomy lovers, head to the "Dark Triangle," at the heart of the Natural Park, sheltered from any light pollution.

Cahors, historic city

If you are just passing through Cahors and don't have time to enjoy all the richness of the region, we recommend beautiful walks in the city center or along the Lot and its meanders.

The city of Cahors is a medieval city where the famous Pont Valentré (name of the hotel) is also recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, under the routes of Saint-Jacques de Compostelle.

Also, a visit to the St Etienne Cathedral, a Romanesque cathedral, seems mandatory. Classified, like its neighbor the Pont Valentré, by UNESCO, the cathedral has also been recognized since 1862 as a historical monument!

Cycling, an increasingly popular activity

Increasingly popular, cycling is a trendy tourist activity. Our establishment now bears the "Accueil Vélo" label. More information on the Brit Hotel Cahors - Le France website.
